01. Your Time Is Gold
Album info: Debut full-length album from Vancouver, Canada’s own All State Champion.
No One quite knows how they earned their name as their homeland doesn’t have
any states. However their music itself has enough adrenaline to fuel a football
arena, replete with polarizing punk riffs, melancholic melodies, and lush sheets
of atmospheric sound. In their songs are moments harkening to early DC “emo”
–tional hardcore, including strained vocals, fractured riffs, and a driving rhythmic
attack. Also creeping through their sound are lush rolls of guitar harmonics,
feedback, and reverb reminiscent of 80’s art rock/post punk. The album features
ten compositions of primal scream frustration. Here you will find none of the
tongue in cheek or self-depreciating digs that seem to wow the punk kids nowadays.
Instead song titles like “ Work is killing me “ and “ Regrets a bitter taste” seem
to be confessional release of maturing adults with some baggage to dump about
committed relationships, careers, and closing in on the dark maw of thirty. Since
their inception in 1998, All State Champion has prided themselves with a stellar
live show and thoughtful, intense songwriting. After establishing solid fan base
and gaining national recognition in Canada, they are gearing up for the U.S. One
of the best post-hardcore bands to come out of Canada |
